ECOWAS Court of Justice at the second High-Level Meeting of the Global Judicial Integrity Network

A delegation of the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, led by its President Hon. Justice Edward Amoako Asante, is attending the second High-Level Meeting of the Global Judicial Integrity Network organised on 25 and 26 February 2020 in Doha, Qatar.

Participants comprising of members of judiciaries and other justice sector are expected to adopt the Doha Declaration on Judicial Integrity.

The Declaration, among others, renews the commitment of participants “to firmly uphold judicial independence and to strengthen integrity, accountability and transparency in the justice system and reinforce the bonds between these fundamental concepts”

Participants also agree to continue their “efforts to identify pertinent challenges to judicial integrity and develop challenges, guidance or tools to effectively address then, such as in the areas of innovation and the use of new technologies and artificial intelligence, administrative functions of judges, judicial discipline and accountability mechanisms, judicial appointment, selection, recruitment, retention, tenure, promotion and retirement, immunity from political and other interference, security of judges and relations with the media”
